Of the years I have seen countess fire protection systems freeze. The main reason for these freeze ups is poor design/installation.
Below is a dry pipe system, with an obvious wet pipe feed. The feed is wrapped in insulation.
Poor heating design. Riser is located inside this closet, see photo below.
